The award, “Honoring Excellence in Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Education and Research,” was presented Sept. 27 to Institute Director David Goldfischer and Institute Senior Fellow Margaret Sanders.
“The University of Denver was among the first to recognize that new educational programs would become a vital part of national and international efforts in homeland security,” Goldfischer says.
Established in 2000, IGLOS concentrates on how globalization affects national and international security. In the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) expanded the program to meet the emerging national need for homeland security education.
GSIS offers both a graduate-level certificate program and a one-year master of arts degree for mid-career professionals. Approximately 90 students are pursuing master’s degrees in international security.
The Heritage Foundation is a think-tank dedicated to researching and advocating initiatives that maintain economic prosperity, individual liberties and a strong national defense. The Center for National Policy, founded in 1981 by Leon Panetta, is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing together leaders to focus on national security issues, both at home and abroad.
