Nearly a decade has passed since the events of Sept. 11, 2001, changed lives in many ways. During the 2010–11 academic year, DU’s Bridges to the Future series will explore why the terrorist attacks happened and how Americans are being challenged to rethink their values.
The theme for the 2010–11 Bridges to the Future season is “9/11: Ten Years After.”
Richard Clarke, chairman of Good Harbor Consulting, LLC and a former White House counter-terrorism czar, will be the keynote speaker for the fall Bridges event, which will be 7 p.m. Nov. 4 in DU’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts.
In collaboration with the University College Enrichment Program, three faculty lectures will also consider the issues surrounding 9/11.
Buie Seawell, professor of law and ethics, will give a talk called “Shaking of the Foundation” on Sept. 30.
Sarah Pessin, associate professor of philosophy and director of the Center for Judaic Studies, will give a talk called “Intercultural Bridge-Building in Complex Times: Lessons from the Jewish Concept Hineni” on Oct. 5.
And Karen Feste, international studies professor and the director of international security and conflict resolution programs, will give a talk called “Eliminating Terrorism: Lessons of the Past” on Nov. 1.

Bridges to the Future was created in 2002 to build a framework of programs that stimulate civic dialog and discussion among Colorado communities. Events are scheduled in each of DU’s three academic quarters — fall, winter and spring.
