‘Big Picture’ event features DU experts, TEDx simulcast

On the heels of live-streaming a full day of the TED2012 conference in February, DU is giving the campus community another chance to take part in a TED event. An April 5 TEDxDU Salon — titled “The Big Picture” — will combine live presentations from two faculty experts with a 90-minute simulcast of the TEDxChange event in Berlin.

Developed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, TEDxChange is devoted to “ideas worth spreading” in the areas of global health and development. The April 5 global signature event features presentations by Melinda Gates; Jeff Chapin, a product designer for global consultancy firm IDEO; European Parliament member and green leader Sven Giegold; Theo Sowa, interim CEO of the African Women’s Development Fund; and Senegalese singer and musician Baaba Maal. The TEDxDU Salon is one of nearly 200 locally organized events extending the TEDxChange conversation around the world.

From DU, Randall Kuhn, director of the Global Health Affairs Program at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, will speak on the role past human development investments may have played in the Arab Spring, and Renee Botta, an associate professor in the Department of Media, Film and Journalism Studies, will talk about a new approach linking sanitation, hygiene, enterprise and governance in Kibera, Kenya.

“The Big Picture” runs from 5:30–8:30 p.m. in Marcus Commons in the Daniels College of Business. Admission is free but registration is required.
