Colorado Women’s College: Gala focuses on legacy and future

Since its founding in 1888, Colorado Women’s College has continued to make an enormous impact on its students, many of whom, as alumnae, are leaders in the communities in which they live, work and engage. On Nov. 15, Colorado Women’s College will celebrate its legacy with its 12th Anniversary Gala.

Designed to showcase the Women’s College’s rich history and lay the foundation for future growth and success, the gala is a fundraising event for the continued expansion of Colorado Women’s College programs and scholarships, which are designed to serve students and the community at large.

“This significant anniversary comes at a pivotal moment in our college’s existence, as well as in our nation’s history,” says Colorado Women’s College Dean Lynn Gangone. “There are dramatic changes occurring within this country regarding the status of women and girls. So while we take this opportunity to celebrate our longevity and our success, we will also look to position our institution for the future as a college dedicated to the advancement of women.”

As the only women’s college in the country to continue to exist after a merger with a larger university, Colorado Women’s College has partnered with the University of Denver to create an academically challenging, empowering and transformational learning environment that places women at the center.

Among Colorado Women’s College graduates are Annie Christopher, founder of Annie’s Naturals; Cleo Parker Robinson, founder of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance; Carole Shorenstein Hays, president of Shorenstein Hays Nederlander Theaters in San Francisco; Rebecca Ann King, holder of the 1974 Miss America title; Inge Sargent, the last mahadevi (queen) of Burma (now Myanmar); Elizabeth (Betty) Heid, CEO of Green Job Outsourcing Brokers and former president of Sterling Associates; Carita Watson, former global transformation executive for IBM Global Services; and Julia Parsley, co-founder of
