DU hosts “Gathering at the Table in Grace and Peace” to commemorate 9/11

Nearly 2,000 members of the DU community showed up to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

DU — along with the Iliff School of Theology and University Park United Methodist Church — hosted a special lunch, “Gathering at the Table in Grace and Peace.”

DU Chancellor Robert Coombe explained that the lunch, which took place in Warren Circle, was the second time the University hosted such an event. After Sept. 11, 2001, then-Chancellor Dan Ritchie noticed how many Middle Eastern restaurants were empty and invited them to cater a community meal co-hosted by  Iliff and United Methodist.

Many of the same restaurants and businesses that participated in 2001 returned to this year’s event. Restaurants participating in 2011included Amira Bakery, Beirut Grill, Damascus Restaurant, House of Kabob, Jerusalem International Market, Jerusalem Restaurant, Marrakech Café, Palais Casablanca and Ya Hala Grill.
