Faculty and staff fundraising campaign launched

The University of Denver is at a turning point in its history — at the zenith of its 147 years — but it can go much further if opportunities are seized upon, said Chancellor Robert Coombe on Sept. 22.

Coombe addressed more than 700 faculty and staff members at the Ascend Faculty and Staff Campaign Kickoff BBQ. The employee-focused phase of the campaign, which runs through Oct. 31, is focused on raising funds for Ascend: The Campaign for the University of Denver.

“We have a glorious campus and wonderful buildings, but this turning point is about people and how we approach them,” Coombe said. “The campaign is about people and investing in our students. It’s about support for faculty and staff, for all of you who make all of this possible. It’s about raising money for what we do together, the programs that make the University of Denver what it is.”

Coombe encouraged faculty and staff members to support the campaign by making a gift of any amount, to any area. “The amount makes no difference, participation makes all the difference,” he said. “I challenge all of us to get together, to bind ourselves together and to commit ourselves to this campaign.”

The kickoff lunch, which was held on Graduation Green, featured barbecue by Famous Dave’s and music by local bluegrass band Spring Creek.

“We wanted to let faculty and staff know how much we appreciate their commitment to the University,” says Sarah Satterwhite, senior director of advancement communications. “This barbecue was an opportunity to let everyone know how they can invest in DU’s future.”
