Richard Clarke will speak at DU's Bridges to the Future series on Nov. 4.
Richard Clarke will visit the University of Denver as the first speaker in the University’s 2010–11 Bridges to the Future program.
Clarke served as chair to the counter-terrorism security group in 1992 and sat on the National Security Council. President Bill Clinton promoted Clarke to national coordinator for security, infrastructure protection and counter-terrorism in 1998. Clarke became widely known for his criticism of the Bush administration before the 9/11. He currently serves as chairman of the risk management firm Good Harbor Consulting.
The theme for the 2010-11 Bridges to the Future season is 9/11: Ten Years After. The series will explore why the attacks happened and how society is being challenged to rethink its values.
“It had an impact that we still don’t fully understand — we don’t understand why it happened and we certainly haven’t been able to understand what sort of historical impact this horrible event has had,” says DU Provost Gregg Kvistad. “We are not going to figure out the answers to those big questions, but we’re going to engage in the dialogue.”
Bridges to the Future was created in 2002 to build a framework of programs that stimulate civic dialog and discussion among Colorado communities. Events are scheduled in each of DU’s three academic quarters — fall, winter and spring.
