Renowned blind climber to headline real estate event

Eric Weihenmayer, an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker and the first blind man to summit Mount Everest, will headline a Nov. 2 DU event at the Colorado Convention Center.

He will speak to real estate and development decision makers from around Colorado at the Rocky Mountain Commercial Real Estate Expo and DU Fall Forecast, which is sponsored by the University of Denver’s Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management and the Denver Metro Commercial Association of Realtors.

The 2010 Expo — the 16th annual networking and education event — is themed “A 5280 View.”

In his keynote speech, Weihenmayer will discuss the power of perseverance and will challenge the attendees to reach near impossible goals. Weihenmayer led an expedition of 12 wounded veterans to the Himalayan peaks of Lobuche and Kala Pattar through the Soldiers to the Summit program in October. He agreed to waive his typical appearance fee because Expo organizers arranged for Deloitte, a financial advisory service firm, to cover the costs for a soldier to participate in the expedition.

“We are so excited to have [Eric] speak at the Expo,” says Iris Foster, 2010 Rocky Mountain EXPO Chair. “Not only is his topic a great tie-in to the event, but also to the Burns School and DU — I’m just thrilled and proud of what our program is doing.”

Twenty-two other speakers will participate in six sessions at the Expo. Sessions will include an economic development update from the federal, state, Jefferson County and outlying area perspectives; a session on commercial real estate financing strategies; and a panel discussion of happenings in the office, industrial, residential, retail, and multi-family sectors.

At the event, Peter Kudla, president and CEO of Metropolitan Homes Inc., Beacon Hill Investments and Metro Metropolitan Residential Advisors, will be named the 2010 Honorary Dean of Real Estate and Construction Management for his individual accomplishments, industry leadership, community service and dedication to higher education.

Additionally, the winners of the 2010 Project of the Year awards will be announced.

The event will be held from 7 a.m.–5 p.m. at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. Six hours of continuing education credit and eight hours of continuing legal education will be offered. Registration information and a detailed speaker list and schedule are available at www.rmexpoforecast.com.
