Sing and Sleigh to give Observatory Park some holiday pop

University Park residents are hoping wintry conditions are a lot less wintry on Dec. 19, the rescheduled date of the community’s annual Sing and Sleigh.

The holiday celebration — originally scheduled for Dec. 6 — was postponed due to frigid cold and snow, which organizers thought might be a burden to the horses lined up to provide hay rides.

Organizers hope the new date is easier on the horses and easier on University Park Community Council volunteers transforming Observatory Park into a winter wonderland.

Sing and Sleigh will feature a cappella singers from Swallow Hill Music Hall, festive décor, cider and holiday snacks by the University Park Mothers Club, star-gazing at Chamberlin Observatory’s historic 20-inch refractor telescope and a visit from Santa.

Sing and Sleigh is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and participants are encouraged to meet, greet and contribute “treats.” Observatory Park is south of East Evans Avenue between Filmore and Milwaukee streets.
