Green ideas about getting the campus community to improve its use of mass transit, biking, walking, carpooling or telecommuting now have some “real green” attached to them.
Four $500 grants are available for faculty, staff or student groups or academic departments who come up with the best plans for encouraging alternative transportation in, on or around DU.
The funds come from the CMAQ program, a federal effort to help communities cut highway-related pollution, and are being administered by Transportation Solutions, an information and advocacy group affiliated with the University of Denver.
Two of the $500 mini-grants will be awarded this spring and two more in the fall, says Rebecca Cales, associate director of Transportation Solutions. The application deadline is March 31 and the two winning programs must be put into place in April or May.
“With Earth Month coming up, we thought it would be pretty timely,” Cales says.
