DU faculty and staff members will receive awards for excellence during the 2006–07 Faculty and Staff Awards Convocation on Sept. 28.
Education Professor Cyndy McRae and English Professor Margaret Whitt will receive the United Methodist Church University Scholar/Teacher of the Year Award. McRae teaches courses in counseling psychology; Whitt’s area of focus is modern American literature.
Psychology Professor Howard Markman will receive the Distinguished Scholar Award, which recognizes a significant achievement in professional scholarship. Markman teaches undergraduate courses on marital and family interaction and the psychology of love. At the graduate level, he teaches courses on couples intervention, marital therapy and community psychology.
Computer science Professor Scott Luetenegger will receive the Distinguished Teaching Award. As the director of the game development program, Leutenegger teaches courses in computer science and game programming.
The University Lecturer award will be given to Social Work Professor Jeff Jenson in recognition of outstanding creative and scholarly work. Jenson is the PhD program director and teaches courses on adolescent problems and research methods.
English Professor Bin Ramke will join the ranks of John Evans Professors. The professorship — the highest faculty honor DU bestows — recognizes outstanding research and scholarly achievement that has significantly impacted a field of study. Ramke teaches creative writing and poetry.
Staff Advisory Council Award recipients will include Katie Symons, associate director of Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, who will be given the Crimson and Gold Award in recognition of outstanding commitment to the University.
Darrel Hundley, accounts payable supervisor at the DU Bookstore, will receive the Outstanding Staff Advisory Council Member Award.
Beverly Kohl, a technical coordinator and enrollment service assistant in the Morgridge College of Education, will be given the Outstanding Service Award — the highest bestowed upon a staff member — recognizing a person who has exemplified DU’s mission.
The Quality Department Award honors departmental staff for outstanding service to the DU community. This year’s recipient is the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University College. The institute, formerly VIVA!, is a membership program designed for lifelong learning for those 55 and older.
