Lamont Society of Music season begins

The Lamont Society of Music hosts exclusive concerts throughout the year for its members to raise money for the Lamont School of Music’s students and programs.

“Music is capable of bringing people together,” says Andrea Howland Cobb, president of the Lamont Society. “Please join me and the Lamont Society to provide vital support today to the world-class musicians of tomorrow.”

Here are the upcoming Lamont Society Events for members at all levels of support:

Day at Lamont, 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Nov. 5
Spend a day at the Lamont School of Music as a student attending academic and performance classes with our faculty and students. Among the featured events for members is a violin class with Linda Wang, rehearsals with different jazz combos and their coaches, or a coaching class on the opera The Magic Flute with coach Ruth Baker.

Steven Mayer, faculty recital and reception, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 17
One of Lamont’s newest and most exciting performers is world-renowned concert pianist Steven Mayer.

Showcase Lamont, student concert and receptions, 7:30 p.m., May 11
Showcase Lamont is a black-tie evening in honor of the Lamont School of Music’s finest students. The evening includes a champagne welcome, a meet-and-greet with student performers, a concert and a reception.

Here are the upcoming events for members who contribute $500 or more:

Technology is for Musicians, Too!, 6 p.m., Jan. 27
Learn how the world of technology has changed how musicians teach, perform, compose and learn. From the keyboard lab to the computer to electronic wind instruments, Lamont’s technically savvy faculty will demonstrate the latest in musical technology. The presentation is by Michael Schulze, lecturer in audio production and recording technology, and other Lamont faculty.

Musicology at Lamont, 6 p.m., March 31
Professors Antonia Banducci, Jack Sheinbaum and Sarah Morelli from the Lamont musicology department will present on what music history means to music majors. A reception following the presentation will be at the Spencer Artist Reception Room.
