Richard Clarke, former counter-terrorism czar, to talk about 9/11

DU’s Bridges to the Future theme: 9/11: Ten Years After

DENVER—Richard Clarke, former White House Counter-terrorism Czar, will speak Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. as part of the University of Denver’s Bridges to the Future programming. Clarke, who is currently Chairman of the risk management firm Good Harbor Consulting, will speak in Gates Concert Hall at the Robert and Judi Newman Center for Performing Arts.

The theme for the 2010-11 Bridges to the Future season is 9/11: Ten Years After. Nearly a decade has passed since the events of Sept. 11, 2001 changed our lives in so many ways. During the 2010-11 academic year, DU’s Bridges to the Future series will explore why it happened and how society is being challenged to rethink its values.

“It had an impact that we still don’t fully understand – we don’t understand why it happened and we certainly haven’t been able to understand what sort of historical impact this horrible event has had,” says DU Provost Gregg Kvistad. “We are not going to figure out the answers to those big questions but we’re going to engage in the dialogue.”

Clarke was appointed chair to the Counter-terrorism Security Group in 1992 and had a seat on the United States National Security Council. President Clinton retained Clarke and promoted him to National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection and Counter-terrorism in 1998.  Clarke is known for his criticism of the Bush administration before the 9/11 attacks.

Bridges to the Future was created in 2002 to build a framework of programs that stimulate civic dialog and discussion among Colorado communities. Events are scheduled in each of DU’s three academic quarters (fall, winter and spring).

All Bridges to the Future events are free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required. RSVP by calling (303) 871-2357, or RSVP online
