DU Carillonneur holds summer concerts

Carillonneur Carol Jickling Lens will host four concerts at DU’s Williams Carillon this summer.

“I am quite excited about hosting the first summer carillon recital series at DU,” says Jickling Lens. “I hope this will be a popular event so that we can have an annual summer recital series.”

The free concerts will start at 4 p.m. June 27, July 11, July 25 and Aug. 8. The concerts are open air, and will be played rain or shine. The listening area is between the Williams Tower at DU’s Ritchie Center and the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion and in the courtyard at the south end of the Ritchie Center. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

Carillonneur Melissa Weidner of Denver performs June 24, Jickling Lens performs July 11 and 25 and the University of Missouri’s Jeremy Chessman performs Aug. 8.

DU’s carillon is one of 180 such instruments in North America, and only the second in Colorado.
