Memorial service set for student

A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, May 8, in honor of Gabriel Richardson, a 22-year-old University of Denver student who passed away at his off-campus job May 5.

Richardson, a senior finance and marketing major and member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, collapsed while working to control a patient at the Aurora counseling center where he worked. Authorities say results of an autopsy are inconclusive.

Richardson’s family has been notified, and his father, Robert, plans to attend the 7 p.m. service at the University Park United Methodist Church, 2180 S. University Blvd., before returning to the family’s home in Louisiana, where funeral plans are underway.

According to Robert Richardson, “Gabe loved his fraternity, DU and the city of Denver.”

“Gabe had an amazing personal story of triumph over adversity and has been an inspiration to many of his peers,” says Carl Johnson, director of campus activities.

Grief counseling is available through the DU Health and Counseling Center. Appointments can be made during business hours by calling 303-871-2205 or after hours by calling for an on-call counselor through Campus Safety at 303-871-3000.
