William Espey delivered an impassioned talk at TEDxDU 2010 in May, encouraging members of society to get off their asymptotes. Now the energetic Chipotle “brand guru” is bringing his asymptotes back to DU for TEDxDU Xpress.
Espey will join a diverse cast of other speakers at the next TEDxDU Xpress event, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Daniels College of Business Marcus Commons. Attendees must register by midnight Feb. 16 at the TEDxDU website.
February’s TEDxDU Xpress event also will include Jose Guerrero, a DU student and slam poet, as well as a talk given by DU computer science and engineering students Chris Aasted, Dylan Jones, John Morgridge and Susan Mueller, who will share their work on some breakthrough medical and entertainment devices.
TEDxDU Xpress is a series of student-organized talks that feature speakers who are doing innovative or creative things with their studies or their talents.
“There are people who are TED fanatics — students and professors — and there are some who have never heard of TED. We want to introduce the rest of DU to TED,” says Parker Calbert, a sophomore political science and public policy major from Denver who is organizing the TEDxDU Xpress series. “I’ve been a fan of TED talks for years, my professors use them in their classes and we’d like everyone to know that TEDxDU talks are happening right here on campus.”
TED is a nonprofit devoted to “ideas worth spreading.” At TED conferences, leading scientists, philosophers, entrepreneurs and artists present their ideas in 18 minutes or less. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. DU will host its second local event — TEDxDU 2 — on May 13.
