DU gymnasts turn in strong showing in NCAA championships

University of Denver junior gymnast Brianna Springer finished 17th in the all-around competition and freshman Jorie Hall was 35th on the balance beam at the 2011 NCAA women’s gymnastics championships April 15 in Cleveland.

Springer finished with a 38.325 in the all-around, scoring a 9.775 on vault, 9.675 on beam, 9.600 on floor and 9.275 on bars. Springer, who qualified for nationals with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA regionals on April 2 in Denver, finished 11th in last year’s NCAA championships.

Hall scored a 9.575 on balance beam in her first appearance in nationals. Hall qualified for the beam competition by earning a 9.900 to share the event title at the Denver regionals.

Springer and Hall will return to lead the Pioneers during the 2012 season.
