López finishes 15th and 16th at NCAA championships

Sophomore psychology major Jessica López became the first gymnast in DU history to be a three-time All-American on April 26, finishing in the top-8 on uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

López competed in the NCAA National Championship finals on April 28, finishing 15th on balance beam with a 9.550 score, and 16th on floor exercise with a 9.7375.

She was the first gymnast to compete in the event finals in head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart’s nine-year career.

Courtney Kupets of Georgia won on vault with a 9.9188, Terin Humphrey of Alabama won bars with a 9.95, Ashley Postell of Utah won beam with a 9.9375 and Morgan Dennis of Alabama won floor exercise with a 9.9625.

DU finished in 10th place in the team competition on April 26 — the highest finish in school history. The Pioneers will return 10 gymnasts to the team for the 2008 season.
