Attendance at DU men’s basketball games continues to rise. Average attendance is up 55 percent from last season after 11 home dates heading into this Saturday’s Sun Belt Conference showdown against 2010 SBC conference champion and NCAA tournament participant North Texas.
The Pioneers are averaging 3,064 fans per game this season, which is up 1,088 fans from last season’s average of 1,976. Denver also is averaging 2,424 fans during head coach Joe Scott’s four-year tenure, which began in 2007–08 after the Pioneers went 4-25 during the 2006–07 season.
“The fans have been terrific at our games,” Scott says. “The crowds have gotten bigger every year, and more importantly we’ve noticed the number of familiar faces returning to each game growing, as well. Their loyalty and enthusiasm helps create our home-court advantage.”
The Pioneers have posted an impressive 44-10 (.815) home record during the Scott era, including a 27-4 (.871) mark in conference home games.
The third-highest attendance in DU men’s basketball history of 6,244 fans witnessed DU’s 79-70 overtime win against Florida International on Jan. 15 at Magness Arena. DU enjoyed an eight-game winning streak from Dec. 18–Jan. 20 and ranks first in the SBC West Division with a 6-1 record.
