Pioneer Golf gets permanent home at Highlands Ranch Golf Club

There’s no place like home — especially one that plays to a par of 72.

The University of Denver announced today that the Highlands Ranch Golf Club will be the official home course for Pioneers golf teams.

DU men and women golfers will practice and play at Highlands Ranch beginning this fall.

“We are elated to have a permanent home for Pioneer golfers,” says Peg Bradley-Doppes, DU vice chancellor for athletics and Ritchie Center operations. “But more than that, we are bringing to life the vision of Ron Moore, a DU alum and outstanding golfer who shaped and influenced both the game and the golf program at DU.”

With a lifelong passion for golf, Moore, (BS finance ’54), was a DU trustee and accomplished golfer who was inducted into the DU’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame. Upon his death in 2004, he became the namesake of the Ron Moore Invitational — a three-day, 54-hole event hosted by DU golf teams.

And, with a permanent home, the Ron Moore Invitational will become an annual fall event.

“Ron truly felt that golf reflected life by teaching important values such as respect, responsibility and sportsmanship,” Bradley-Doppes says. “The Highlands Ranch Golf Club will be an excellent home for our DU golfers where they can continue the legacy and love of the sport that Ron envisioned.”

Located at 9000 Creekside Way in Highlands Ranch, the new home of Pioneer golf is a semi-private club that features an 18-hole Hale Irwin-designed championship golf course.
