Stastny to play in first NHL all-star game

DU alum Paul Stastny will play in his first NHL All-Game on Jan. 30.

Former University of Denver All-American Paul Stastny has been added to the 2011 NHL All-Star Game roster.

Stastny joins Colorado Avalanche teammate Matt Duchene at the 58th NHL All-Star Game, which will start a 2 p.m. MST on Jan. 30 at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Stastny, 25, will be making his first appearance at the NHL All-Star Game. He was selected to the 2008 All-Star Game but was unable to play due to injury.

Stastny has tallied 17 goals and 25 assists in 47 games this season, ranking him second on the Avalanche in both goals and points.

Paul’s father, Peter, played in six NHL All-Star Games during his 15-year career from 1980–95. The Stastnys will become just the eighth father-son tandem in NHL history to play in the All Star Game.

Stastny starred at DU from 2005–07. He helped lead Denver to the 2005 NCAA title and was named WCHA Rookie of the Year after his 45-point freshman season. Stastny earned All-America honors in 2006 and finished his two-year DU career with 26 goals and 62 assists in 81 games.
