Tanner ends long run as women’s basketball coach

Three-time coach of the year Pam Tanner will not return to coach the Denver Pioneer women’s basketball team next year. The announcement was made April 1.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to mold a program at the University of Denver for 13 years,” Tanner said. “I was fortunate to be able to teach and coach at such a fine institution. The time is right to pursue other opportunities. I wish everyone at DU all the best and continued success.”

Tanner was nationally recognized as the 1999 Positive Coach of the Year by Positive Coaching, Inc. and by Full Court Press Magazine, which named her one of the top five young coaches in 2002. One of the highlights of Coach Tanner’s DU tenure was taking the Pioneers to the NCAA tournament in 2001.

She leaves DU after compiling a record of 190 wins to 181 losses.
