Women’s hoops squad makes NIT field

The University of Denver women’s basketball team was picked to play Brigham Young University in the first round of the women’s National Invitational Tournament on Thursday at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah.

Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.

“Our goal at the beginning of the season was to set the precedent that our team plays in March,” says head coach Erik Johnson. “We felt our team had a good shot at the NCAA tourney, but the WNIT is a great first step in that direction. This group of seniors has established a great winning tradition here at DU, and I am thrilled that they get to continue their playing careers into the post-season. The strong non-conference schedule that we played will continue to benefit us as we come up against some of the other top teams in the nation. This is a great opportunity and we plan to take full advantage of it.”

If the Pioneers advance, they will play the winner of Utah State and Arizona.
