Lamont Featured Performance: Jazz Night

Jazz pianist Michael Weiss visits the Newman Center on Oct. 12.

The purveyors of harmony at the Lamont School of Music will celebrate people who want more harmony in the world with a concert featuring Michael Weiss.

The Lamont Jazz Ensemble, Lamont Jazz Orchestra and Contemporary Combo will perform with Weiss, while the combo will play tunes written by the jazz pianist. Weiss is at the forefront of modern American jazz and has been described as “one of the most dynamic young pianists in jazz” by the Chicago Tribune. Over the years, Weiss has performed with such jazz luminaries as Slide Hampton, Lou Donaldson, Art Farmer, Jimmy Heath and Johnny Griffin.

The performance is part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days, an annual global concert network affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship and our shared humanity. World Music Days is inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, who would have celebrated his birthday on Oct. 10th. For more information, visit the website.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at DU’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free and doesn’t require tickets. Parking is free.
