The University of Denver will make a change in the leadership of its men’s basketball program, and head coach Terry Carroll will not return to the position, Athletic Director Peg Bradley-Doppes said today.
The announcement comes two days after the Pioneers lost 83-67 in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Tournament. The 2006-07 Pioneers concluded their season with a 4-25 overall record and 3-15 mark in the SBC.
“Coach Carroll took an extended leave of absence in December and subsequently, we determined that a change in leadership for our men’s basketball program was necessary,” Bradley-Doppes said. “We thank Coach Carroll for his efforts over the last six years.”
Bradley-Doppes added that a national search for a new coach will begin immediately and that current assistant coach Kevin Reynolds will continue in his role as interim head coach.
Carroll posted a 79-99 (.444) record in six seasons on the DU sidelines and was 20-40 (.333) the past two seasons. In 2004-05, he led the Pioneers to their first Sun Belt Conference regular season championship and first appearance in the National Invitation Tournament in 46 years.
