The Women’s Library Association is wrapping up its annual half-price holiday sale Nov. 28–Dec. 9 with a children’s day Dec. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prompted by the donation of new children’s books from a local publishing house, the first-time event for children will feature face painting, games and food.
“It has been proven that when children have books read to them as preschoolers, they do much better in school,” says Gwen Hurd, head of the children, parenting and pets section.
Hurd says the sale is a great way for parents to introduce their children to books at affordable prices.
In addition to children’s books, the annual sale offerings include more than 20,000 volumes of rare books, autographed and first edition copies and new books. Regular book prices range from 25 cents to $20.
The Book Stack is open Tuesdays to Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first floor, south side of the Mary Reed Building. The Book Stack is a nonprofit operated by the Women’s Library Association/Friends of Penrose and staffed by volunteers.
Proceeds support the Penrose Library at the University of Denver. For more information, call 303-871-3405.
