Alumna Dafna Michaelson visted all 50 states looking for everyday heroes.
Daniels College of Business alumna Dafna Michaelson will be the keynote speaker at the 17th annual DU Women’s Conference April 20.
In 2009 Michaelson (MBA ’01) traveled across the country to all 50 states in search of Americans with a drive to solve community problems. Sixty-five percent of the people she found were women making a significant difference in their communities in areas ranging from civic engagement to agricultural entrepreneurship.
A year later she launched the Journey Institute and Journey Productions to help others mobilize their communities to action. She also is the founder of Women as SOCIAL Entrepreneurs group, an organization that brings together women in a supportive environment to grow business ideas that benefit communities.
At the conference luncheon, Michaelson will share stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things for their communities.
More than 350 people from the DU community are expected to attend the free conference and luncheon, co-chair Cindy Koch says.
At the conference there will be 21 breakout sessions in the areas of civic engagement, health and wellness, personal development and professional development. The sessions range from “The State of Women in Politics in Colorado and Beyond” to “Speech Camp for Adult Learners” and “Adding Value to Your DU Career.”
Breakout sessions begin at 8 a.m. at the Chambers Center, 1901 Asbury Ave. The luncheon begins at noon at the Cable Center, 2000 Buchtel Blvd.
The free conference is open to the DU community. Registration is required.
