The University of Denver men’s lacrosse program had three players drafted in Friday’s 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) draft. This is the second year in a row that DU players have been drafted to the major leagues.
Seniors Jeremy Noble, of Orangeville, Ontario, Jamie Faus, of Lakeville, Conn., and Terry Ellis, of St. Louis, Mo., all were selected by the Denver Outlaws. The three players will begin their senior seasons at DU Feb. 8 against Air Force.
“As we continue to strive to reach the pinnacle of collegiate lacrosse by winning an NCAA championship, we are reminded how blessed we are with the young men who have come to play in the DU program,” Denver head coach Bill Tierney said Friday. “The last few years have shown that our players are recognized by both professional lacrosse leagues. Tonight’s selection by the Denver Outlaws of three of our seniors, Jeremy Noble, Jamie Faus and Terry Ellis, makes us very proud of each of these great young men.”
Noble was picked sixth overall in the first round, while Faus was picked in the fifth round as the No. 38 overall pick. Ellis rounded out the group in the seventh round as the No. 54 overall pick.
A 2013 USILA Honorable Mention All-American and a 2012 USILA Third Team All-American, Noble is coming off a 2013 season that saw him play in 10 games for the Pioneers after struggling with a hamstring injury. Noble was able to finish with 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points.
“Jeremy is a proven winner in both box and field lacrosse,” Tierney said. “He has won three Minto Cups in Canada and has been extremely instrumental in our recent success at DU.”
Faus enters the season after a successful 2013 campaign that saw him compete in 15 games, finishing with 97 saves and a .554 save percentage. The 2011 USILA honorable mention All-American was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year in 2011.
“Jamie is not only one of the premier goalies I have ever coached, but he has taken his captainship and leadership roles to a very high level this year,” Tierney said.
Ellis saw action in all 19 games, finishing with two assists, 12 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. In his three seasons at Denver, Ellis has 18 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.
“Terry Ellis’ story shows there are still great surprises in the world of lacrosse,” Tierney said. “From inner-city St. Louis with little high school experience, he has developed into one of the finest defensive midfielders in the game.”
Denver opens the season Feb. 8 at Air Force. The Pioneers then travel to Durham, N.C., on Feb. 15 to take on the defending national champions, the Duke Blue Devils.
