The University of Denver community is invited to celebrate the richness of international culture Saturday at the 29th annual Festival of Nations.
The family event gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the diverse international presence on campus through a celebration of different cultures through food, music, games and dance.
“It showcases the cultures we have on campus and in Denver,” says Erin Hari, staff advisor for the Festival of Nations.
The festival will feature more than two-dozen booths offering information on international organizations such as the Latin Dance Club and Amnesty International, or serving foods from countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Korea and Mexico.
Performances throughout the day will include music and dancing by students and community groups representing many nations, including China, Libya, Mexico and India, Hari says. Two American hip-hop dance groups also will perform this year, she says.
The day will close with a fashion show featuring 26 international and domestic students from DU displaying cultural dress.
The Festival of Nations, the largest student-led event held on campus every year, also is the culmination of DU’s International Celebration Week, which highlights and promotes cultural diversity inside and outside classrooms at DU.
The Festival of Nations will be held at the Ritchie Center from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
