Tennis teams win Summit League, advance to NCAA championships

The University of Denver’s No. 1-seeded men’s and women’s tennis teams made it a dual championship season as both Pioneers squads defeated No. 3 seed and defending conference champion Fort Wayne in the 2014 Summit League Tournament Final Sunday at Colorado Athletic Club Monaco.

The Pioneers, who also claimed the Summit League regular-season title by virtue of their perfect 5-0 conference mark, receive an automatic berth to the 2014 NCAA Division I tennis championships with the victory.

The 2014 NCAA Tennis Selection Show will air live at 3 p.m. MDT on Tuesday, April 29, on NCAA.com.

Men’s tennis advanced to the conference championship game for the second straight season and the third time since 2008. This is DU’s second consecutive league title after a 4-0 win over Idaho at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Women’s tennis advanced to the conference championship game for the second straight season and the fourth time since 2008. The Pioneers victory marked their first league tournament crown since 2008, when it captured the Sun Belt Tournament Championship.
