DU’s creative writing program is one of two local major sponsors of the Association of Writers & Writing Programs’ 2010 annual conference, which is slated to take place in Denver April 7–10, 2010.
The convention is expected to bring more than 500 teachers, publishers and writers to Denver, including keynote speaker Michael Chabon and more than 25 featured readers, including Rick Bass, Joy Harjo, Leslie Marmon Silko, Gary Snyder, Terry Tempest Williams and Colorado’s own David Wroblewski.
According to the nonprofit association’s Web site, “the AWP holds its annual conference in a different region of North America [each year] in order to celebrate the outstanding authors, teachers, writing programs, literary centers and small-press publishers of that region. The conference typically features 300 presentations — readings, lectures, panel discussions and forums — plus hundreds of book signings, receptions, dances and informal gatherings.”
In Denver, events will take place downtown at the Hyatt Regency hotel and the Colorado Convention Center.
Founded in 1967, AWP is a national nonprofit literary organization for teachers, writers and writing programs.
