DU has new student leadership. Junior Antoine Perretta and sophomore Jim Francescon were voted DU’sAUSA Senate president and vice president, respectively, for the 2009–10 school year. Students voted online April 27–29.
Perretta was the AUSA Senate vice president during the 2008–09 school year, serving with president Monica Kumar. The Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism and Management major says his former role gives him the ability to “start on some of our initiatives right away instead of waiting until the summer and fall.”
Those initiatives?
“We really want to tackle promoting aggressive partnerships with alumni to foster more job and internship placement for students, building partnerships between campus organizations as a component of pride and community and focusing on issues of the transparency of the Senate,” Perretta says.
“This year it’s our goal to put you first as a Denver Pioneer,” Francescon, a real estate/finance major, told students in the pair’s campaign video. Their campaign slogan — “Pioneers First” — focused on increasing campus pride, continuing sustainability initiatives, requiring Senate committees to publish spending reports in the Clarion and strengthen unity among student organizations, among others.
