DU's Ice Show will showcase more than 150 skaters.
It might not be the Winter Olympics, but the 2010 University of Denver Ice Show will feature lots of skating skill.
The show, with performances May 1–2, will feature of group, specialty, and solo figure skating numbers by approximately 150 skaters from preschool age to collegiate and seniors. This year’s theme is “It’s All Fun and Games” and incorporates the activities of all four seasons.
One of the numbers in the show features a performance by DU varsity hockey players and female collegiate figure skaters, including Lisa Moore. Moore, along with her partner Justin Gaummond, recently competed in the U.S. Nationals pairs competition. The pair also will perform their own number.
Coordinated annually by DU recreation figure skating coaches and numerous volunteers, the ice show has been a tradition at DU for more than 35 years.
According to Susan Williams, a DU figure skating coach and one of the ice show organizers, producing the show is a big undertaking that begins in the fall.
“At every level, this is a team effort,” she notes. “The staff, skaters, coaches and volunteers work hard behind the scenes and on the ice to pull it all together for show time. This is a true labor of love.”
