Myhren Gallery displays work of Bachelor of Fine Arts majors
The University of Denver (DU) Victoria H. Myhren Gallery announces the opening of the “2010 Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Exhibition” May 13 through June 5, 2010. A public reception will be held Thursday, May 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. This annual presentation features works by students graduating from the DU School of Art & Art History (SAAH) studio arts, pre-art conservation and electronic media arts and design (eMAD) programs.
Participating students are: Matthew Contos, Rachel DeBoard, Courtney Jeffery, Rachel Maisel, Brigette Nelson, Jillian Pate, Jennifer Schneider and Caley Shoemaker. The exhibition will demonstrate the breadth of undergraduate work at the University of Denver, from mixed media sculpture and painting, to photography and electronic installation pieces.
Brigette Nelson transforms dryer lint from being a mundane household nuisance to a visually complex sculptural installation. Courtney Jeffery presents ceramic cups as a vehicle to illustrate her personal memories and emotions from a volunteer experience in Peru. Also featured will be an installation on the care of damaged paintings by pre-art conservation student Rachael Maisel, who interned at the Western Center for the Conservation of Fine Arts; a performance piece on relational aesthetics by Matthew Contos; and a metal sculpture on the interplay between light and music by Jillian Pate.
