Campus going green for Earth Day

The University of Denver will host a variety of earth-friendly events to commemorate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22.

The DU Environmental Team will staff an information table outside of Sturm Hall from 11 a.m. –4 p.m.  There, students can partake in giveaways and will have the opportunity to pledge to go green.

Ted May, director of University Disability Services, will lead two yoga sessions at 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. in the Harper Humanities Gardens. Students will also be able to make their own mini zen-gardens and participate in a labyrinth meditation walk.

The Natural Resources and Environmental Law Society will host speaker Daniel Markofsky, a Denver land-use attorney, from noon –1 p.m. in the Sturm College of Law, Room 180. Markofsky will speak on Denver City and County zoning issues.

Other Earth Week events include:

•    Jeremy Nichols, director of the Rocky Mountain Clean Air Act, will present “It’s About Our Health: Safeguarding Clean Air in Denver and the West” in the Sturm College of Law, Room 180, on April 23 from noon–1 p.m. The talk is presented by Natural Resources and Environmental Law Society (NRELS).

•    NRELS will host an Earth Week party featuring beverages by New Belgium Brewery, food and local music by Oakhurst on April 23, from 3–6 p.m in front of the Ricketson Law Building.  The party is open to graduate students over age 21. Only students who have purchased a mug from NRELS in the law school forum prior to the start of the party will be able to have beer.

•    In partnership with the Denver Park System, the Graduate School of International Studies will be planning trees from 8 a.m. –noon on Saturday, April 26. For more information, contact kimberly.kidd@du.edu.
