DU’s Department of Media, Film and Journalism and the Estlow Center for New Media are hosting “Journalism in the Public Interest,” a one-day event that offers journalists and interested community members insight into a variety of topics affecting the media today.
Three citizen journalists from Cameroon, Cambodia, and Colombia will share their stories as part of the group World Pulse, an organization dedicated to bringing women a global voice.
Professors in the media, film and journalism studies department will lead a discussion of traditional versus new media in today’s society following the screening of Page One, a documentary about how The New York Times deals with the world of digital media and the demise of newspapers.
The Estlow Center a will present the Anvil of Freedom Award to Free Press, a national nonpartisan organization working to reform media by promoting diverse and independent media ownership, strong public media, and universal access to communications.
And, Adrienne Russell, a DU associate professor of digital media studies, will discuss her new book, Networked: A Contemporary History of News in Transition (Polity Press, 2011).
Events, which are open to the public, will be 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Cable Center. Reservations are required. For more information or to make reservations, visit the event site. DU students, faculty and staff may attend the luncheon at no cost. Lunch is $25 for non-DU attendees.
