The University of Denver Bookstore opens a new chapter next month as the University outsources operations to a private company with access to a network of educational materials, the latest technology and national reputation.
To get ready, the campus bookstore will be closed Feb. 24 through March 5. During that time, crews will take inventory, install new equipment and train. In the meantime, the store’s new website will go live Feb. 28, and any items ordered online while the store is closed will be shipped free. The bookstore reopens March 6.
DU has transferred management of the bookstore to a company with nearly 140 of retail expertise, the Follett Higher Education Group. It’s a move University administrators say will help keep materials affordable and deliver the latest in technology.
In addition to adding to the bookstore’s selection, Follett will give DU student access to more textbook options. Along with traditional new and used books, Follett will offer its Rent-A-Text program, which provides an average savings of 50 percent when compared to purchasing new. The company also offers a digital textbook service called CaféScribe.com for laptops, tablets and smart phones.
For the time being, the bookstore will look about the same as it does currently, but Follett plans to completely renovate the space over the summer.
“We are confident that this seamless transition will only enhance our campus community,” says Craig Woody, vice chancellor of business and financial affairs. “We look forward to working with Follett to provide our faculty, staff and students a truly exceptional full-service campus store.”
