Watch out, Hollywood. A real 2012 expert is about to contradict the catastrophe predicted for the end of the Mayan calendar.
Some people think Dec. 21, 2012 will be an apocalypse. Others don’t believe the hype and think it’ll be just another day in history. But Mayan spiritual guide Miguel Angel believes the date will mark the beginning of positive advances in human thought and behavior — a “new clarity,” he says.
When the Sigma Lambda Beta fraternity heard about Angel, they invited him to speak at DU as part of the fraternity’s Beta Week. The free presentation will be at 7 p.m. tonight in the Driscoll Center Ballroom. No tickets are required. Angel will cover the cyclical Mayan calendar and 2012 prophecies.
Angel says he wants to clear up misconceptions about the Mayan predictions. He chose to speak at DU after noticing these misconceptions were especially common in younger Americans.
“I want to help people be fear-free about 2012,” Angel says through his interpreter, Regina Spillari. “Many people are expecting a destruction. Our Mayan grandparents do not talk about the destruction of humanity.”
Angel has spent the last two years presenting this information in cities around the country. His presentation at DU will be his last before returning to his native Guatemala, where he lives in the northern Mayan-Quecchi territory.
Tuesday’s speech will include an open invitation to a ceremony in Guatemala in June. The ceremony is part of a five-year preparation for 2012 and will “clear the path” for positive change, Angel says.
