With February being the month of Valentine’s Day, it should come as no surprise that it’s also American Heart Month.
DU Chaplain Gary Brower encourages you to share a piece of your heart this month by participating in a number of events.
Brower says he tries to put together volunteer opportunities and events on the bridge once a month. He wanted to do something to recognize February’s heart-related themes without focusing on the typical do-something-for-your-sweetheart events since not everybody has one.
These will be fun and low-key events to get people thinking and to give back to people at the VA Hospital and Metro CareRing, he says.
Valentines for Vets
Stop by the Driscoll Bridge Feb. 10 from 1–3 p.m. and Feb. 11 from 9:30–11 a.m. to create a valentine for a veteran. The valentines will be delivered to patients at the VA Hospital by Valentine’s Day.
Heart cookies for Metro CareRing
Decorate heart-shaped cookies on the Driscoll Bridge Feb. 15 from 1:30–3:30 p.m. Cookies will be delivered to Metro CareRing.
Volunteer at Metro CareRing
Take advantage of an opportunity to help serve the homeless and hungry population of Denver by volunteering at Metro CareRing on March 4 from 9–11:30 a.m. There will be additional travel time involved.
For more information or to volunteer at Metro CareRing, visit the Driscoll Bridge during the first two events or contact Brower at 303-871-4488 or Gary.Brower@du.edu.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story had a different date for the Metro CareRing event. The date was changed by the organizer.
