DU’s Native Student Alliance will host a spring powwow, “New Beginnings,” that will showcase Native American drummers and dancers of all ages and honor Native American students graduating from DU this spring.
Native nations from throughout the United States and Canada will be represented at the powwow.
DU senior and Native Student Alliance member Tina Trujillo will serve as the powwow’s Head Lady and will help lead dancers in and out of the events.
More than 20 Native American vendors from Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico will sell handcrafted art and jewelry, and Denver’s Tocabe American Indian Eatery will provide food.
“This powwow is very important because it will exemplify the beauty of Native American traditions, while [showing] the community that the Native Student Alliance at the University of Denver is active and provides a model for young Native American children and students to look up to,” says Lance Tsosie, Native Student Alliance president.
The powwow will be noon–6 p.m. May 21 on the Driscoll Green. The event is free and open to the public.
