The University of Denver continues to excel in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) that is used by the NCAA as a measure of academic achievement.
The APR is an NCAA measure to track the academic achievement of Division I teams during each academic term. Each student-athlete earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible. A team’s total points are divided by points possible and multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s APR score. Teams that fall below the minimum APR score of 925 face possible sanctions ranging from scholarship reductions to more severe penalties.
All 17 DU varsity sports programs achieved a score of 925 or higher and two programs — gymnastics and men’s golf — achieved perfect scores of 1,000.
The NCAA announced the 2008–09 APR data and penalty reports for all Division I institutions as part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program on June 9.
Sun Belt Conference member intuitions continue to show marked improvement in the APR. Each of the Sun Belt Conference’s 19 sports has seen an increase on average in APR over the last three seasons. In fact, all 19 sports on average are achieving a score higher than the APR minimum threshold of 925 and nearly 90 percent of the Sun Belt Conference’s 189 teams are above a score of 925.
