Daniels Fund and DU create $5 million business ethics chair

Late this summer, the Daniels Fund announced a $3 million gift to fund a faculty chair in business ethics for theDaniels College of Business at the University of Denver. DU will enhance the $3 million gift with $2 million to support programs in business ethics.

“We are honored to have been selected for this significant gift that recognizes the importance of laying a solid ethical foundation for business school graduates,” says Karen Newman, dean of the Daniels College of Business.

The chair will be named in memory of cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, who collaborated with the University to incorporate ethics, values and social responsibility in the business school curriculum. During his lifetime, Daniels gave more than $22 million in support of the Daniels College of Business and other programs at the University of Denver.

“Bill Daniels not only saw the importance of business ethics, he lived it everyday in his business life,” says Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund.

Ethics is a pillar of the Daniels College mission, which stresses enlightened practice, professional achievement and community commitment. The Wall Street Journal has named Daniels College one of the top schools in the world for producing graduates with high ethical standards. In 2005, the school was ranked No. 4, alongside Yale, Brigham Young and Dartmouth. Daniels College faculty support ethics in the community, as well as in the classroom, through research conducted for the Center for Corporate Excellence and other institutions.

The Daniels Fund operates the Daniels Fund Scholarship Program and the Daniels Fund Grants Program in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Bill Daniels established the fund in 1997.

DU’s nearly 100-year-old business college was renamed for Daniels in 1994 after he awarded the college a challenge grant to update the graduate business curriculum.
