Students to celebrate the international experience at annual Crimson and Gold Global Gala

DU students, staff and faculty members will party — international-style — at the 3rd annual Crimson and Gold Global Gala on Jan. 27.

The cocktail event at Mile High Station near Invesco Field will feature foods from around the world and international entertainment.

The gala was started by DU’s Campus Activities Office as a way to re-engage juniors who have returned from study abroad.

“We wanted it to be something really special, a way to welcome students back not just to DU but to Denver,” says Kerrie Rueda, assistant director of campus activities. “It provides an opportunity for returning students to mix and mingle with their peers, share their stories, and celebrate the whole international experience.”

In past years, more than 400 people have attended the event, which is open to all DU students, faculty and staff.

“The students and even alumni have really taken to this event,” Rueda says. “We’re excited to have new tradition on campus.”

The evening will feature African music and dancers, belly dancing, samba dancing, and performances by the DU Tango Club and a Japanese drum group. The winners of the annual Study Abroad Photo Contest will be announced.

Registration for the Crimson and Gold Global Gala is available online until Jan. 24. Tickets to the Gala are $5 for attendees under age 21 and $10 for those 21 and over.  The 21-and-over tickets include a drink ticket that can be redeemed at the event’s cash bar. A complimentary shuttle to Mile High Station from the Auraria West Campus light-rail stop will run on a continuous loop throughout the evening.
