Summer Commencement scheduled for Aug. 15

Summer 2014 Commencement will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, August 15, on Graduation Green.

The speaker will be Michael Keables, interim dean of the Daniel Felix Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Denver.

For those unable to attend, live video of the ceremony will be available on the Commencement website.

Keables has served as interim head of the Ritchie School since 2011, presiding over the school’s renaming, the groundbreaking of a new 130,000-square-foot facility, and the announcement of a new interdisciplinary STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) initiative.

Keables is also an associate professor in the Department of Geography and Environment, which he joined in 1986. In his 28 years at the University, he has served in a number of leadership positions, including chair of the Department of Geography, associate dean of Undergraduate Studies, interim executive director for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, and interim dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

His research addresses issues of climatology, hydrology, environmental problems and climate change. His current project involves using local water budget models to predict how future water supplies will change in response to global warming.
