Alumnus releases third book in vampire series

While on a case to collect the pages of The Undead Kama Sutra, a manuscript rumored to explain how to increase a vampire’s psychic energies and healing abilities through sex, vampire private-eye Felix Gomez encounters a dying alien who tells him to find his assassin, a man known as Goodman, in order to save the women of Earth.

The search for Goodman leads Felix to the Florida Keys, where he meets researcher Carmen Arellano. Together, the pair sleuth after Goodman, a retired Army colonel somehow linked to the disappearances of three other women in a conspiracy with alien gangsters. After the aliens kidnap Carmen, however, Felix alone must act as the savior.

The Undead Kama Sutra (Eos, 2008) comes as the third installment of DU alumnus Mario Acevedo’s vampire chronicles recounting the adventures of Felix Gomez.

Acevedo first received accolades as a writer with the release of Felix Gomez’s inaugural adventure in The Nymphos of Rocky Flats (Eos, 2007) followed by the sequel X-Rated Bloodsuckers (Eos, 2008).

Acevedo (MCIS ’98) attributes his change of fortune — from aspiring writer collecting rejection slips to successful author collecting compliments — to joining the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, where he had the opportunity to interact with other authors and receive valuable advice.

From other authors Acevedo learned what the market wanted, and the market clearly wanted tales of the undead.

“I use the vampire detective as a medium to engage in satire about the world,” Acevedo says, explaining his penchant for the vampire genre.

Acevedo travels from his home in Denver across the country, attending writers’ conferences and promoting Felix’s most recent adventure.
