Temple Grandin, a professor of animal sciences at Colorado State University, will be the keynote speaker March 24 at the DU-hosted National Undergraduate Bioethics Conference.
Grandin is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. at Davis Auditorium in Sturm Hall. The speech is free and open to the public.
The national conference — scheduled for March 23–24 — focuses on pressing bioethical issues and challenges facing the way we think about technological advances.
In addition to Grandin — who also is an author and the subject of an HBO movie about her life — the conference at Sturm Hall will feature a dozen experts, ranging from David Boonin, a philosophy professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder, who will speak on “The Problem With the Problem With Human Reproductive Cloning,” to former Gov. Richard Lamm, who will speak on “The Brave New World of Medical Ethics.’’
The conference also features a Bioethics Bowl in which teams from universities across the country will debate pressing questions in bioethics and how they should be handled today.
The conference is sponsored by DU’s Department of Philosophy. Grandin’s talk is sponsored by the DU Honors Program.
