Donations top $14K as teams prepare for Relay for Life event

DU will host its fifth annual Relay for Life at 7 p.m. tonight.

During the 12-hour event held on DU’s Driscoll Lawn, teams will walk to celebrate cancer survivors and honor those the disease has claimed. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

In past years, DU has raised 10,000–$50,000 during its Relay for Life event. As of May 7, DU participants had already raised $14,102. The DU event has 195 registered participants making up 29 teams.

This year’s theme is “Heroes of Hope,” which encourages participants to dress like superheroes. The event will include performances by The Foot and the DU Idiosyncracies, a volleyball tournament, a whipped cream eating contest, a viewing of The Dark Knight and yoga.

DU’s Relay is open to the community, and teams can be any size. To participate, volunteer or donate, visit durelay.com.
