DU’s Center for Judaic Studies is working with the Iliff School of Theology and the Religious Advisory Council to host a day of interfaith bridge-building as the first official activity associated with the Holocaust Memorial Social Action Site.
“Voices in Dialogue” will feature Muslim, American Indian, Jewish and Christian religious leaders speaking from 3–5 p.m. April 3 at DU’s Knoebel School of Hospitality Management.
“Interfaith dialogue is a critical activity in general — and it is a critical activity at a Holocaust memorial in particular,” says Sarah Pessin, director of the center and DU’s Emil and Eva Hecht Chair in Judaic Studies. “One way to truly take direction from the past is to dedicate ourselves to fostering deep understanding and respect for those who are different from ourselves and whose beliefs we do not share.”
During the first hour of the event, speakers will talk about “engaging the stranger” by discussing texts from religious traditions other than their own. In the second hour, the audience will participate in a series of facilitated community roundtable discussions.
