Nothing brings in the holiday spirit like the ringing of bells.

“The holidays and bells just seem to be made for each other,” says DU Carillonneur Carol Jickling Lens.

At DU’s annual holiday carillon concert this year, Lens will perform carols from around the world as well as familiar tunes such as “Up on the Housetop” and “Sleigh Ride” on DU’s Williams Carillon.

“This year I get to play some carols I’ve always wanted to hear on the carillon,” Lens says. “It will be a fun recital.”

Lens also will play the fitting “Carol of the Bells” on the carillon’s 65 bronze bells, which span five and a half octaves. There will be a live video for attendees who want to see how the instrument is played.

There will be a reception following the concert at the top of the stairs on the west end of the Ritchie Center. Attendees can meet Lens, and refreshments will be served.

The concert is at 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Williams Carillon at DU’s Ritchie Center, 2240 E. Buchtel Blvd. The concert is open air and will be played snow or shine. Admission is free, no tickets are necessary. Parking is free in Lot 108 on the corner of Buchtel Boulevard and South Josephine Street.
