Lamont Symphony remembers Ansel Adams at Feb. 13 concert

The Lamont Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the legacies of iconic American artist Ansel Adams and pioneering composer Ernst Bacon at a special concert on Feb. 13.

The concert features the Colorado premiere of Bacon’s “Remembering Ansel Adams,” his tribute to the famed photographer of the American West. Adams’ black-and-white images of landscapes such as Yosemite National Park helped establish photography as a fine art.

The artists’ sons, Michael Adams and David Bacon, are hosting this event in remembrance of their fathers’ lives and work. The event will begin with a lecture and slideshow by Adams of his father’s photographs.

“It’s like their sons are carrying on their friendship with this concert,” says Chris Wiger, director of public relations for the Lamont School of Music.

The concert also includes an appearance by Grammy-winning clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, who will be featured in a performance of Witold Lutoslawski’s “Dance Preludes.” Also on the program are Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7.

Adams’ lecture and slideshow begins at 6 p.m.; the concert follows at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required.
